To become a FAA Certified Airframe and Powerplant licensed mechanic, a student must pass three written tests– General, Airframe, and Powerplant.

Before taking the written tests, Applicants must complete the following application:

  1. FAA AIRMAN CERTIFICATE AND/OR RATING APPLICATION- FAA Form 8610-2

In addition, prospective mechanics, after passing their written exams, must pass an oral/practical assessment of their mechanical skills.
